Located in Ho Chi Minh City, Nong Lam University - Ho Chi Minh City (NLU), established since 1955, is one of the top agricultural universities in Vietnam. At NLU, we work hard to develop a favorable learning environment essential for all students to develop their full potential. We have a green campus, a good library, large dormitories and a convenient sport center. New laboratories and computer labs are well equipped inside faculty buildings. More facilities for students are going to be built or upgraded in the coming years. Based on the University’s excellent educational achievements and reputation in agricultural and rural development in Vietnam, NLU has been developing into a multi-discipline university. We currently have more than 50 training programs covering a wide range of science and technology disciplines. The training curricula are approaching international quality and adopting credit systems. The University has been also acting as a bridge to transfer advanced technology, share experience and solve technical problems to communities and entrepreneurs through research, developing projects, workshops and conferences. Many collaboration projects between NLU and international partners have been successfully implemented, contributing to the enhancement of the university’s training and research capacity as well as national development. Empowered faculties, staffs and students have together built up the reputation of Nong Lam University – Ho Chi Minh City. Nong Lam University’s vision is striving for multi-disciplinary university in education and research, with international standard in educational programs, making efficient contributions to the national development. The University missions are concentrated: - To train internationally qualified professionals and experts in the different disciplines who embody high academic standard morality and creativity. - To conduct research and development activities leading to economic improvement and sustainable natural resource conservation of Vietnam. - To serve as a knowledge management center to link academic and communities. Nong Lam University has a main campus of 118 hectares located in Hochiminh City and two sub-campus, one in Gia Lai province: 60 hectares and one in Ninh Thuan province. In NLU, at present, we have 12 faculties and three departments, directly managed by the University. Located at the main campus, the Faculty of Fisheries, officially established in 1974, is one of the leading institutions of the University. The faculty of Fisheries has been pioneering in education, research, international collaborations and region supports (in fishery planning, aquaculture development extension, and technology transfer) contributing to the development of NLU and of fisheries and aquaculture in Vietnam. The faculty comprises of five departments: Fish Biology and Aquatic Resources, Aquaculture Technology, Aquatic Products Processing Technology, Aquatic Animal Pathology, and Fisheries Management and Development. It operates five laboratories, two experimental farms: one with 5000 m2 dedicated for aquaculture nutrition and aquaculture pathology trials, one with three hectares dedicated for experiments and production demonstration, and the BIOMIN-aquaculture Research Center with five laboratories, two challenge rooms and five circulation systems. Several of its staff obtained Master or PhD degrees at European Universities (Wageningen, Ghent, Stirling, Montpellier II…). The faculty’s researches are concentrated on aquaculture technology: polyculture, intensive farming, reservoir aquaculture …; seed production of indigenous fish including ornamental species; nutrition and aquaculture feed, contamination bioaccumulation in seafood products; aquatic animal microbiology and pathology, seafood preservation and processing, aquaculture management and sustainable development; social economics in aquaculture, seafood trade. There are more than 1,000 undergraduate students in four majors: aquaculture, aquatic product processing technology, fish pathology and fisheries economics and management and 80 graduate students in aquaculture in the faculty.
