Faculty of Fisheries, Nong Lam University was officially established in 1974. Its predecessor was Fisheries Devision of Animal Science Faculty, National Academy of Agriculture. Since 1962, when the Fisheries Devision offerred BSc degrees in Fisheries for its first batch, the Faculty of Fisheries has trained more than 45 batches of undergraduate students and issued thousands of BSc diplomes for its graduates. In 1975, after the national reunification, the faculty had only two lecturers with graduate educational levels. Since 2005, the faculty has owned an enthusiastic and well-trained teaching staff of fourty in which 38 hold graduate (MSc and/or PhD) degrees.

With its 8 PhDs and 5 national Associate Professors, the Faculty of Fisheries offers BSc programs in Aquaculture with specilizations in Aquaculture, Fish Pathology, and Fisheries Economics&Management. Another BSc program is Aquatic Products Processing. The Faculty also offers graduate (MSc and PhD) degrees in Aquaculture. 

The academic reputation of the faculty is also recognized in scientific research on aquaculture, technology transfer, technical support to national aquaculture industry, provincial and national extension agencies located in Ho Chi Minh City and many provinces of Vietnam.

Alumni network of the Faculty of Fisheries has spreaded out all geographical areas and industrial sectors of Vietnam and also in Laos and Cambodia. Lots of its graduates are occupying high and highest positions in academic institutions such as Research Institute for Aquaculture No.2, Cantho University. Alumni of the faculty are also recognized in governmental agencies and thousands of enteprises related or not related to aquaculture in roles of owners, investors, high-level managers, technicians, consultants,... The alumni network has helped to enhance its reseach and teaching capacity beside a nationwide academic network working on fisheries and aquaculture.

The Faculty of Fisheries is still continuously improving itself. Besides more than ten lectures are studying for higher educational levels of master and doctoral at global recognized universities, the faculty also has a global collaboration with various international academic institutions and universities such as Auburn University (USA), Asian Institute of Technology (AIT, Thailand), CIRAD & Orstom (France) as well as international non-government organizations.
